Eco Ganesh Campaign v2.0 September 18, 2012
Inspired by the overwhelming response received for the campaign the previous year, the ‘Go eco-friendly, go Godly’ campaign was conducted on September 18, 2012(on the eve of Ganesh Chaturti) by the members of the Ecological and Social Awareness Club and URMI of MVSR Engineering College. The main objective, like the previous year, was to spread awareness about the demerits of using plaster of Paris idols.
The venue chosen was the near the canteen to attract the students and the staff. A practical demonstration of the demerits of using POP idols was given. Colorful posters, interactive banners and idols were displayed. Enthusiastic volunteers and members of the team went about explaining the merits of using clay idols. Students were encouraged to sign a pledge that they would use clay idols. Names of the members of the staff who promised to use clay idols were written on a banner titled ‘Heroes of the day’ and displayed. Last year, many people had requested the organizers to make the clay idols available in the college. Idols were prepared and painted by the students themselves and sold, much to the delight of many people. The response was, like last year, overwhelming. The event conducted last year was supposed to be a small step to help create awareness. And as promised, it has grown. The fact that many students confessed to having bought clay idols even based on last year’s event speaks about the success of this event. Hope is a good thing. |
